Guardians of the Heritage
Palm Date is one of the oldest trees whose traces are recorded in our intangible heritage; in ancient Egypt, the tree of the goddess Hathor was a symbol of longevity. The palm was also known as the tree of paradise, because of its enormous benefits to the environment.
Women’s Production Cooperative Society for Handicrafts, established by young Nubian women, is considered the first women’s cooperative in Egypt, located in Aswan, in Southern Egypt/Upper the Nile
Members are all women from villages, started with 21 members and now they reached 35 women form different Nubian villages. The association aims to empower women living in rural islands and people with disabilities,; to help them integrate and facilitate a sustainable source of income.
To ensure high quality production The trainers travel across the villages ands small islands spread along the Southern part of the River Nile to provide in person training.
